Symptoms of plantar fasciitis

The following are typical signs and symptoms:

Heel pain
Intense heel pain during the first steps after waking or after a period of inactivity.
Painful to raise your toes off the floor.
Pain feels better during exercise, but returns when resting.

Treatment

To ease the symptoms of plantar fasciitis, you can do the following:

Rest the foot (by avoiding standing or walking for long periods)
Wearing shoes with good arch support
Avoid walking barefoot
Consider purchasing insoles
Loose weight if the patient is overweight or obese
Pain relief medication e.g. paracetamol and ibuprofen
Ice packs used for 15-20mins
Self-physiotherapy to stretch the plantar fascia.
